South America – Good travel fiction to read?

south america travel
kommz asked:

Going travelling in South America (Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Argentina) Cuba next year, can someone recommend good topical reading while travelling? (not travel guides!)
Preferably travel fiction based in those countries, but true stories also welcome. Previous good travel reads i liked were The Beach (travel in thailand) and The Full Montezuma (travel in south america (very good!)). Any tips much appreciated!!

I recommend the Guide to the perfect Latin American Idiot.. its very good. Not a travel fictional book, but a book that explains the harsh truth of extremist left and right governments in latin america.
The other book is The Motorcycle Diaries: Notes on a Latin American Journey by Ernesto Che Guevara. It is good too.
