South America Travel

My fiance and I had some places (out of the country) in mind to travel during January, but all the places we picked do not have such pleasant weather during January…. soooooo, where are some good places to go in South America during January? Or where are some other places to travel with good weather besides Australia and Cape Town?…. If there aren’t many places out the country, what about in the US (besides Florida, and Cali)?? I’d like to visit either Peru or Brazil in November (Thanksgiving time). But I am concerned on whether it is safe to go there with my 8 month old baby. I’ve heard that the altitude in Machu Picchu might make it tough for a baby to breathe, and I personally think that the Amazon won’t be safe either.
